Vice chairman of National Planning Commission (NPC) Dr. Jagadish Chandra Pokharel said eco-friendly policies will be incorporated into the sectoral policies and strategies of three-year interim development plan.
[Adaptation of environment factors has been ignored during the construction of physical infrastructure]
Inaugurating an interaction on "Adaptation of Ecology in Three-Year Planning" organised here on Sunday by the NPC, he said since the effects of climate change were not mentioned in the previous plans, cautions will be taken in the coming days.
Determination of the environmental impacts during the construction of physical infrastructure, including roads, is a tough task, he said, urging the stakeholders to know the value of environment by spreading awareness and doing away with traditional notions.
"Due to political pressure, adaptation of environment factors has been ignored in infrastructure development. If such trend continues, it will post a threat to the next generation," he said.
On the occasion, NPC member Dr. Dinesh Chandra Devkota said the environment-friendly policy should be implemented by prioritising education and awareness.
NPC Secretary Yuvaraj Pandey said the suggestion of experts to make policies eco-friendly will be taken into account.
Presenting a working paper at the interaction, former secretary at Home Ministry Balkrishna Prasai said the agendas of environment loss should be included in the implementation process of national planning.
