Demand for cement base accessories increased in Nepali market

The demand for well-rings, tiles, interlocks, railings, pillars, idols and other decorative accessories made of cement has increased tremendously in the Nepali market. The major reason for the increase in demand for these items is due to their durability and abrasive resistant properties. “These days most people use cement tiles for decoration of floorings around garden areas and pathways,” said the proprietor of Pashupati Stone Factory at Bagdol.

Instead of using iron railings, these days people prefer cement railings as they don’t rust like those made of iron. Manufacturers of these cement items normally use Brij, Hetauda and Maruti brands of cement.

Kamal Shrestha, managing director, Well and Safety Tank Factory, said, “The demand for well rings have grown in most places in view of perennial water scarcity.” Another major cement item is Hem Pipe, mostly used for sewage lines and water lines. “Hem pipes are used to manage water supply and sewage systems so as to prevent water from being contaminated,” said Balkrishna Tamang, proprietor, Banglamukhi Construction Service. He said, these days plotting activities and sewage management works are on the rise, shooting up the demand for hem pipes. He informed that the fitting charge is Rs 20 per sq ft including fixing items.

Also, white cement is being used to make railings these days. “People are attracted to these items due to their extra durability and alluring designs,” said Subash Gurung, proprietor, Landscape Gardening Design Service at Bansbari.

He further added that landscaping is easier with cement tiles and most of the housing companies, hotels and even individual houses, are purchasing cement items, triggering a further innovation in the items alreasdy in the market.
